Ka'ūpūlehu Marine Reserve
The Ka'ūpūlehu Marine Reserve is a protected marine area established in 2016 by the State Department of Land and Natural Resources with strong community support. The reserve was created to give declining reef fish populations a chance to recover. The reserve establishes a harvest kapu (restriction) on harvesting in the area from 2016-2026 while a plan for sustainable harvest is developed.

The 3.6-mile stretch of coastline from Kikaua Point to Kalaemanō and extending out from the shoreline to a depth of 120 feet is designated as a "no take" rest area and a "limited take" area from the 120 foot contour out to the 600 foot contour. No fishing or gathering of any kind is allowed within the marine reserve.
